Let's Talk About Your Next Career Move.. And How To Get There!
Let's Talk About Your Next Career Move.. And How To Get There!

Hello Career Bloomers and Happy August!

Let's talk top questions, Do's and Don't and so much more!

🌸 - Lauren

Career Cultivation - Here's What Not To Do In Your Job Hunt This August! 😍 (Seriously! Don't Do Them)

Don't make the basic mistakes!
Don't make the basic mistakes!

👩‍💻 Use AI as a resume writer! AI is best used as a tool! Not to do it for you! Think back to your school days and the teacher would get upset because she could tell your mom did half your project.. (Sorry Mrs. Langley, I tried, I promise) 😉

Ignore Your Social Media Presence - 💻 I hear this statement all the time - " I didn't use my real name, they won't be able to find me"....UH NO! We absolutely can see you and with the glorious obsession we have with online rabbit holes and cancel culture.. someone can and will.. FIND YOU! 🧹 So clean up your social media! Your future self will thank you!

Put off updating your resume! 📝 Okay so let's be honest for a sec. When was the last time you updated your resume? Updating your resume is like... well it's like an everything shower. Scrub off the old dusty and crusty outdated verbiage and clean it up and make it shine!

Forget That Recruiters Are People Too! 😍 I see so much recruiter hate on the internet and it can be INTENSE! Don't get my wrong, I have been ghosted a time or too and it's not the best feeling in the world but try and remember as overwhelmed as you are looking for a job, we can be just as stressed trying to fill positions!

I love this PART!
I love this PART!

1. How can I stand out when so many people are looking for a job?

The current job market is highly competitive, with a notable increase in unemployment and a decline in overall hiring. Job seekers are feeling the pressure of being one of many applicants for limited roles. They are asking coaches for practical, actionable advice on how to differentiate themselves beyond a basic resume, focusing on personal branding, networking, and interview strategies that highlight their unique value.

2. My industry is being impacted by AI. What skills do I need to learn to stay relevant? 🤖

The rapid adoption of AI is a major concern, particularly for workers in entry-level tech, administrative, and creative roles. They are seeing their jobs directly affected by automation and are looking for a coach to help them identify which hard and soft skills are most in demand. Questions center on how to pivot their expertise, whether through certifications in new technologies or by emphasizing uniquely human skills like critical thinking, communication, and emotional intelligence.

3. How can I negotiate for better compensation and work-life balance in a market that favors employers?

While employers have more leverage in a slower market, professionals are still keenly focused on their well-being. Burnout is a major concern, and many are looking for ways to set boundaries and maintain a healthy work-life balance. This question combines a desire for fair compensation with a need for a sustainable lifestyle, challenging the notion that one must sacrifice personal life for professional success.

4. How do I make a career change when companies are primarily looking for "unicorns" and not willing to train?

Companies are increasingly seeking candidates who can hit the ground running, a trend that is making career transitions more difficult. Job seekers are frustrated with the lack of training and development opportunities, and they're turning to coaches to help them bridge their skill gaps. They need guidance on how to leverage transferable skills and frame their past experience in a way that proves their potential to new employers, even without direct experience.

5. I am a recent grad/Gen Z worker. How do I get my first job when I have little experience and the market is so difficult?

Younger workers, particularly Gen Z, are facing a tough environment. With a notable increase in unemployment for recent college graduates and a decline in entry-level job postings, they feel their degrees have diminished in value. They are looking for coaches to help them navigate this new landscape, focusing on building a portfolio, developing professional networks, and crafting a job search strategy that goes beyond traditional applications.

And I know you want the answers to these top questions and as hard as I tried I couldn't fit them all in this one newsletter... so this August we will be taking a deep dive into each one to get all the info you need!!

5 Steps To Navigate Your Career Path This August!! 🪴

Feeling a little lost on your career path? It's totally normal, especially with all the changes happening in the job market. This month, let's take a chill approach to getting back on track. Here are 5 steps for August:

  • Take a Quick Pit Stop: The job hunt can be a grind and can take a toll on your mental health. This month, give yourself a real break. Take a day off, or even just a few hours, to do something you truly enjoy. Your brain needs time to refuel, too.

  • Chat with a Co-pilot: Networking doesn't have to be a high-pressure event. Think of it as a casual conversation. Reach out to a couple of people you already know and admire. Ask them about their recent projects or what they're seeing in the industry. It’s a low-stress way to stay in the loop and remind yourself you're not on this journey alone.

  • Tune Up Your Tools: Worried about AI? Instead of feeling overwhelmed, think of it as a chance to add a new skill to your toolbox. You don't have to enroll in a huge course. Find a free online tutorial or a short webinar to learn something new that could make your current skills even more valuable.

  • Plan a Small Excursion: Forget about planning your whole career for the next five years. Just think about the next three months. What's one small, achievable goal you could hit before the end of the year? Maybe it's finishing a specific online course or updating a single section of your portfolio. Small wins feel great!

  • Don't Ghost Yourself: A big frustration for job seekers is being ghosted by employers. Don't do that to yourself! Be your own biggest advocate. Keep a simple, tidy log of your applications, and remember to follow up with a brief, friendly email after a week or two. It's a small act that puts you back in the driver's seat.

Market Pollen! 🐝 🌸 What's Buzzing in August 2025?

Let's Make Sure You Are Up To DATE!
Let's Make Sure You Are Up To DATE!

Here's the latest buzz from the job market to help you navigate:

  1. AI is a Big Deal (and Not Always a Bad One): AI is a top factor for both job creation and job cuts in 2025, especially in tech and entry-level roles. Instead of fearing it, the focus is on learning how to use it. Companies are looking for people who can work with AI tools to be more efficient.

  2. The Rise of Skills-Based Hiring: The days of employers caring only about a college degree or GPA are fading. Many companies are shifting to skills-based hiring, meaning they're more interested in what you can actually do. This makes certifications, personal projects, and hands-on experience more valuable than ever.

  3. Soft Skills Are The New Superpowers: In a world where tech skills are crucial, the human element is becoming even more important. Employers are desperate for people with skills like communication, resilience, creative thinking, and problem-solving—things AI can't easily replicate.

  4. Job Search is a Marathon, Not a Sprint: The hiring process is slowing down in many sectors, and competition for jobs is fierce. Instead of mass-applying, the best advice is to focus on quality over quantity: tailor your resume for each specific job and build authentic connections through networking.

  5. Well-being is Now a Workplace Metric: Employees are prioritizing work-life balance and mental health. This means companies that offer things like flexible schedules and remote work options are more attractive. It's becoming less about finding any job and more about finding a job that fits your life.

Cha Cha Cha Changing... The Market Anyway. Let's Talk! 😳

What's Changed in the Job Market?

The job market is always changing, but it feels like things are moving faster than ever. It's easy to get discouraged, but being in the know is half the battle! Here's a quick, fun look at some of the biggest shifts happening right now.

1. The Great Skill Swap: It used to be all about the name on your diploma. Now, it's more about the skills you've got. The rise of skills-based hiring is a game-changer. Employers are focusing on what you can actually do, whether you learned it in a boot camp, on a personal project, or on the job. So, if you've been working on a side project or teaching yourself a new program, that's your golden ticket!

2. Ghosting is the New Normal (for Companies, too): You've probably heard about it, but the reality is that the job search process is a lot slower and more impersonal than it used to be. Many companies are getting thousands of applications for a single role, so don't take it personally if you don't hear back. It's a marathon, not a sprint, and your job is to keep your head up and stay focused on the roles that are the best fit.

3. Goodbye, Old-School Résumés: With AI tools being used by both job seekers and recruiters, the traditional résumé is becoming less effective. The new strategy is to create a compelling personal brand. This means having a polished LinkedIn profile, an online portfolio, and a clear story about who you are and what you bring to the table. Your online presence is your new résumé.

4. Remote Work is a Negotiation Tool: While some companies are pushing for a return to the office, the demand for flexible work is not going away. Employees now see hybrid and remote options as a non-negotiable part of a healthy work-life balance. It's something you can (and should) be prepared to discuss in interviews as a key part of your offer.

5. Your Soft Skills are Superpowers: In an age of automation, the things that make you human are more valuable than ever. Employers are actively seeking candidates with creative thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. They want people who can collaborate, adapt, and lead with empathy. Don't just list these on your résumé—make sure you have real stories to back them up.

Knowing these changes can help you feel more confident and in control of your job search. The rules might have changed, but your ability to adapt is what will make you stand out.

Okay My Career Growing Friends.. That's all for me for August.. See You In September!
