The Hard Data: Why the "Wait Your Turn" Strategy is Dead.
Listen, I am an HR professional who lives in the data. I am going to give you the numbers that your college career center probably skipped.
According to recent Gallup workplace surveys, only 23 percent of employees are actually engaged at work. This means the majority of your competition is doing the bare minimum. If you are even 10 percent more intentional than the person at the next desk, you are already winning.
Furthermore, Glassdoor data shows that the "entry-level" salary for many mid-market roles has remained stagnant while the cost of living has skyrocketed. If you follow the traditional path of a 3 percent annual raise, you will not hit six figures until you are 40. By then, that money will have the purchasing power of 60,000 dollars today.
To hit 100k by 25, you cannot play the average game. You have to play the leverage game.
